"FAMOUS FOR THE FOURTH" Celebration
Big crowds are commonplace during Rich Hill's largest annual event. This big Fourth of July celebration consists of several days of carnival and live entertainment, a parade midday on the fourth, and a huge fireworks extravaganza on the night of the fourth. (See additional photos of activities from 2010 Famous for the Fourth Celebration below)
HUNTING, FISHING, AND OUTDOOR SPORTS

The Missouri Department of Conservation has numerous facilities around Rich Hill offering everything from hunting, to fishing, to boating and much more! If you happen to enjoy duck hunting specifically, then the August Busch Jr. Memorial Wetlands at Four Rivers is for you. This 14,000 acre facility is a destination for duck hunting enthusiasts from all across the United States. (photo below)

Four Rivers ... DUCK HUNTING at it's finest! A nationally known water fowl destination!

"COUNTRY CHRISTMAS" - You definitely will want to plan your Christmas gift giving around the ever popular "Country Christmas" event held on the 2nd Saturday in November. This day kicks off the holiday season and is filled with the opportunity to purchase baked goods, seasonal decorations, and handcrafted items made by many of the local craftsmen set up in various locations throughout Rich Hill.

McGENNIS YOUTH CENTER - (Located just west and south of Rich Hill) - This charming agricultural youth center has two special summer events: First, in mid-August, the "Old Barn Theater Under the Stars" features a three night run of a comedy play starring all local talent. The final night of the run also includes an old fashioned carry-in picnic dinner just prior to the play. You definitely will enjoy this entertainment! On the last Sunday in September you can attend the McGennis Youth Center BBQ and Benefit Auction. While it is a major contributor to the operational funding of this facility, it is also an enjoyable afternoon of fun, food, and the opportunity to buy handcrafts, baked goods, and a variety of gift certificates for merchandise and services, all donated to the center. You'll always enjoy the peaceful hilltop setting of the lake, the old barn, and the restored country church.
Besides these local events, there are always lots of community benefits and fundraisers that are not a regularly scheduled event, but offer the opportunity to gather and socialize as only a small community can!

"The Simple, Quiet Life of the Old Order Mennonites"
Rich Hill is also "home" to a community of Old Order Mennonites who raise virtually tons of fresh produce and ship it out to large supermarket chains in the Kansas City area. These folks use no electricity or phones and travel by horse and buggy as the Amish population does elsewhere. The Rich Hill Old Order Mennonites do have a "market" that's open weekdays to the general public to buy their produce. The selection includes tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, green beans, peppers, and one of their largest crops ... watermelons and cantaloupes. While browsing their shop, you can also purchase locally made jams and jellies and some wood products. A great "outing" awaits you as you see how life was in "simpler" times!
